Weeks after Nigeria’s brilliant outing at the recently-concluded Rio 2016 Paralympics Games in Brazil, the heroic athletes are becoming restless as they wait to be formerly received by the Federal Government.
“We went to Rio with the determination to win and in line with our promise, we conquered and now nobody is saying anything about our performance. It is sad.” She said.
We are now begging President Muhammadu Buhari to receive us and accord us the necessary recognition.” Onye stated.
Also is Flora Ogwunwa, another Rio 2016 Paralympics gold medalist and world champion who set a new world and Paralympics record at the games, pleaded with the authorities concerned to give the heroic Paralympians due attention .
According to her, the Paralympics athletes have done their best by winning laurels and uplifting the name of the country.
“It is now left for the government to play their own part by hosting and rewarding us accordingly”.
“We went, saw and conquered, so the Federal Government should also play their part by hosting and rewarding us. We are tired of this waiting game. After all, it is said that justice delayed is justice denied”.
Team Captain, Lucy Ejike who also won gold medal for Nigeria added her own voice by pleading to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung to draw the attention of the President Muhammadu Buhari to the need to give their reception speedy action.
