...Says PDP image has not been battered
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant vying for the position of National Youth Leader in the August 17 National Convention, Hon. Ude Okoye, yesterday said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed the nation.
Okoye, who picked the PDP nomination form for the national convention on Tuesday, insisted that the party has not been battered.
Okoye, who is currently a member of the Enugu State House of Assembly,
said that the zoning principle adopted by the party is to ensure equity among the six geopolitical zones of the country.
He pointed out that
the principle does not mean that any party member who wants run for any of the positions could not contest.
He said: "I will like to say that our image has not been battered because PDP has been at the top of politics in Nigeria. Many people have been clamouring for the party to come back to power. We have given way so that Nigerians can test what other parties have in stock. But it is regrettable that the party has failed to provide the change promised.
"Anybody who knows this wonderful party, PDP, and our party slogan will know that it is a party that dwells on equity. It was built and anchored on equity that anything that the north has, the south should have the same.
"That is why in our system we believe in zoning; the zones that can give us what we have so that the party can move forward.
"The zoning formula of PDP is not in anyway prohibiting anyone who feels like running."
Recalled that PDP leaders from Southern Nigeria met in Port Harcourt on Thursday last week to micro-zone some of national offices allocated to the south and had zoned the
position of National Youth Leader to Enugu State while National Organising Secretary was zoned to Abia State.
Okoye, however
promised to sell the reformation agenda of the party to the youths.
