As Ondo state prepares for its governorship election, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) has promised to expand the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the state, if elected.
Addressing newsmen in Abuja shortly after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms, Jegede, who recently resigned as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the state, said he would make economy his priority.
He said: "Our first priority is economy, the second priority is economy and the third priority is economy. That is the only way we can sustain our infrastructural development and ensure that we pay salaries.
"We will ensure that we partner with investors. They will bring in their skills and money. We will give them a level-playing ground. And we will draw on it to provide employment and also generate revenue.
"We are going to ensure that with these new challenges, we will dislocate from the centre in terms of finance. We are going to be self-sustaining and we are going to work towards it. We intend to achieve that by ensuring that we have a very friendly internally generated revenue system that will put everybody in the purse so that they will be able to provide money. And we are going to do that also by ensuring that we provide a level-playing ground for the industries so that we can tax."
