Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) yesterday in Kano demanded the release of the corpses of over 50 members of the sect who they alleged were killed by the police during Monday’s clash between Shiite member and police at Tamburawa axis of Kano.
Speaking on behalf of IMN, the sect’s local leader in Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Abdulkadir also claimed that police played down the figures of the casualties recorded during the clash.
He insisted that Shiite lost more than 50 of its members during the bloody confrontation.
However, Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rabiu Yusuf in a Press Conference in his office on Monday said only eight Shiite members lost their lives after failed treatment at the hospital while one police man died, bringing the figure to nine.
But Koki further threatened that the Shiite will drag the Nigeria Police Force to court to demand justice over what he described as unprovoked attack on them and their properties by the police.
Insisting that police lied on the number of casualties, Koki said, “ it was far from being true the purported figure released by the police which they said they killed when they attacked us on our trekking journey
to Zaria , the figure is above 50 people , because as at now, some of our members are still missing .
“When the Police saw the magnitude numbers of our members who were killed and
deposited at the mortuary, they have to went back in the night to removed some to undisclosed places so as not be able to categorically say the number killed.
“It was worrisome, saddened and pathetic that the Police can go to that extent of killing innocent people, who were observing their right of freedom of religion, without causing any havoc or confronted anybody.”
