...Derides Makarfi's plot to form another party
Embattled Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff yesterday explained that while Sen. Ahmed Makarfi was not sincere towards reconciliation in the party, the governors
posed destabilizing danger to the existence of PDP.
Sheriff also said that
Makarfi is a distraction to the well being of the Party, since the sincerity of his Caretaker Committee towards reconciliation was questionable.
Sheriff, in a statement by his deputy, Cairo Ojougboh pointed out that PDP governors are promoting impunity and corruption in the party
He advised them to mind governance and leave party administration to the party, adding, "they should execute party manifestos to enable the party to excel in future elections. The issue of governors being financiers of the party should be addressed so that the party will not encourage corruption. This is the only way we can institutionalized internal democracy in the party that has eluded the party in the past."
Sheriff waved aside the plan by Makarfi's group to form another political party, adding that
"anything that will sieve corruption out of PDP would endear the party to Nigerians, this should be the pursuit of every serious minded leader of the party."
Sheriff, who said that he just received a report from his committee that toured the entire six zones of the federation and interact with members of the Party from ward, local government and state chapters on the state of the party, added that "the state of the PDP across the Country is very strong and the voting public is very interested in the affairs of the Party.
"The report further noted that the opinion of Nigerians is that the PDP should move above the issue of National Caretaker Committee headed by Senator Ahamed Makarfi which is a distraction to the well being of the Party, since the sincerity of makarfi’s group towards reconciliation is questionable.
"PDP members from the grassroots are of the opinion that they no longer want a cash and carry style administration of the Party as exemplified by the National Caretaker Committee, which is viewed as a faction belonging to the bourgeoisie and not the grassroot.
"Members of the party noted that what is needed in PDP is transparency and not a situation where officials would be bribed for tickets to contest public offices."
Sheriff, however, said that his group would commence a tour of all the 36 states of the federation starting from Benue state in the next two weeks. He, also directed all state chapters of the party to update their ward registers for inspection.
