Public schools occupied by IDPs to resume normal academic activities –MoD

The Ministry of Defence has said that normal academic work will soon commence in schools erstwhile occupied by internally displaced persons.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Amb. Danjuma Sheni, said that troops had also recaptured all the territories that were formerly under the control of the insurgents.

Sheni made the comment at the inauguration of the National Planning Committee for the 2017 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Permanent Secretary said that the theme of the 2017 celebration, ‘Appreciating the Resilience of the Nigerian Armed Forces,’ was apt in view of the success of the military in tackling the various threats to national security.

According to him, nothing should be considered too big in appreciation of the great sacrifices of the military for the country in spite of the challenging economic situation.

He said, “Owing to their efforts and sacrifices, all the territories formerly under the control of insurgents have been recaptured.

“Normalcy is gradually returning to the affected villages/towns, as public schools previously occupied by internally displaced persons are to resume normal academic activities.

“Indeed, nothing would be considered too big for the country to do in appreciation of their sacrifices. “
