The disputed National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, has said that Jimoh Ibrahim remain the candidate of the party in the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state.

Sheriff stated this in Abuja, while addressing newsmen on how far himself and the party caretaker committee Chairman, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi have gone in the party reconciliation process.

Recall that Makarfi-led committee had conducted primary in Ondo state where Eyitayo Jegede emerged as PDP governorship candidate.

But, fielding question from newsmen, Sheriff said, “as party, we have taken our decision, we have chosen Jimoh Ibrahim as our candidate and whatever the law says we will follow it. We are products of the rule of law.”

He said that the party was however awaiting the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission and the court on who becomes the party’s candidate.

On the reconciliation in the party, the former Borno state governor said that all interests would be accommodated in the party reconciliation process.

He said as individual, his group did not have problem with anybody, adding that
the proposed reconciliation committee would take everybody along and every interest would fully represented, including that of the party’s governors.

“As a politicians, once the issue is over we will put it behind us,” he said.

Sheriff said that himself and Makarfi had agreed to find a lasting solution to the party’s lingering leadership crisis

He said that the two leaders had agreed to set up a 28- man committee, 14 from each faction of the party, to work out the modality for the reconciliation.

Sheriff said that the committee would be inaugurated on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

“For now there is no any position paper from anywhere. We are discussing and drawing a framework of discussion. From that we would find a way forward for the party,”he said.

Attributing the party crisis to lack of internal crisis, Sheriff said what was happening was a lesson for everybody to learn.

“We must allow people and party owners from the wards level to choose their leaders.

“We are doing what the common man want us to do and we will not deviate from that,” he said.

Asked why the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) was not mentioned in the reconciliation move, Sheriff said the board was not mentioned because they did not play their roles properly.

“BOT is suppose to be the highest advisory body of the party, they should not take position on any matter. If there is a problem they should call everybody and resolve it.

“When we are constituting our committee we can pick from the BoT member but for now we are to do these things properly," he said.
