A former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, has commended the people of Edo State for their wisdom in electing Godwin Obaseki to succeed Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
He described Obaseki’s election as a demonstration of Edo people’s resolve to enthrone credibility, accountability and progress in the state.
Ochei, according to a statement, said this in Benin while reacting to the outcome of the September 28 governorship election in Edo State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the APC candidate, Obaseki, who polled 319, 483 votes, winner of the election ahead of his fiercest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 253, 173 votes.
Ochei said the election was a reflection of the good work done by the APC in Edo State in the last eight years under the leadership of Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
He described Obaseki’s election as a silver lining not only in the sky of Edo State but Nigeria at large.
He said, “It is only logical and natural that a man of Obaseki’s pedigree has been voted to continue with the task of elevating Edo State to a higher pedestal in the comity of progressive states in Nigeria.”
Ochei, who said the APC’s mandate was hinged on security, anti-corruption and accountability in all spheres of national endeavour, urged Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari in the interest of the country.
