At the EXCO today, Governor Samuel Ortom recieved two awards in recognition of the achievements recorded by his administration despite sharp decline in resources.
Senior Special Assistant On Public Utilities, Environment and Sanitation Mr Nathaniel Ikyur who represented the Benue state Governor at the induction ceremony by the Environment and Safety Management Institute, ESMI, told the governor and the Benue state Executive Council members that four key areas were listed by the institute that qualified the governor for the award.
The award from Environment and Safety management institute is in recognition of the Governors selfless service to humanity. Notable areas they highlighted included.
*Treatment of Snakebite victims which the Governor has been doing from his personal purse from 2006 till date.
* His humanitarian gesture and love shown to accident victims irrespective of his office as he demostrated on his way back to Abuja on lokoja Road and several other cases .
* Reopening of accreditation at Benue State university college of health sciences and Graduation of pioneering medical students.
* Renovation of School of Nursing and midwifery and facilitating the accreditation of its courses.
Prof David Ker, erstwhile vice chancellor of the Benue state University is the Chairman of the governing council of the institute.
Taking his turn , Senior Special Assistant to the Governor On Diaspora Affairs, Rev. Peters Ichull presented an award of Excellence to the Governor from Mutual Union of Tiv in United Kingdom (MUTUK ).
The award presented by Mutuk is in recognition of the governors Developmental drive amidst paucity of funds. The Governors achievements in the area of Sustainable Development Goals ,with Benue doing well and been the first state to meet up the requirements to activate funds for that purpose.
According to Ichull, the Governors award is unique because this is the first time in over 20 years that the Union will be in unison without faction ,all owing to the fatherly role played by the awardee Governor Samuel Ortom.
Receiving the award at the Exco hall of the Benue People's House before the state Executive council,Governor Ortom dedicated the two awards to God Almighty,he advised all his appointees to seek the face of God anytime they are faced with enormous challenges in the cause of their Assignment.
He said although his predecessor has failed to see the modest progress and achievements of his administration and is spreading falsehood a lot of people and Organizations have recognized this and all the good wishes are only meant to put them on their toes.
