The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the Edo State governorship election, Godwin Obaseki, has promised to expand the popular Evbareke Auto Spare Parts Market, if elected on September 10.
Obaseki spoke while addressing hundreds of auto technicians and the members of the Auto Spare Parts Association and the state Council of Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association during a rally in Benin, the state capital, on Friday.
The APC candidate, who was accompanied by Governor Adams Oshiomhole, explained that having been a businessman with many years of experience, he knew that the market required an additional space for expansion in order to create better economic opportunities for residents in the state.
Obaseki said, “For me, this is like a homecoming because like all of you, I am also a businessman. I understand the business you are doing. I understand what made you wait for me for so long since morning.
“It appears that this market is already congested. We will go and acquire a large parcel of land at the Benin bypass. I will give you the land and help with the construction.
“We will open another branch of this market there so that there will be enough space for all the traders in this market. I want to make this market one of the biggest markets for selling tractor spare parts in Nigeria, and we will support you.”
The APC candidate, who also received the endorsement of the technicians, also assured spare part dealers of equal opportunities.
He added, “We will support you with the Federal Government’s programme on tractors. The government will bring many tractors and you will bring the spare parts to support them.
“The governor has played his own role, which is part one, and we are going to start part two. In this part two, we will need all of you to work together. My government will create the enabling environment for everyone to earn a living.”
In his response, the state chairman of the technicians’ association, Felix Irabor, who announced the endorsement of the APC and its candidate, said, ”I want to promise you that our members and households we will fully cast our votes for Godwin Obaseki and (Philip) Shaibu.”
Also speaking, the President of ASPA, Efosa Asemota, promised to mobilise the over 6,000 members in support of the ruling party.
