Kogi to probe failed contracts

The Kogi State Government is set to probe all failed public contracts awarded between 2003 till date.

This was the outcome of the decision reached at the end of the state executive council meeting held on Wednesday.

Rising from a sitting, the state executive council agreed to set up a judicial panel of inquiry to probe all failed contracts in the state.

A statement signed by Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Yahaya Bello, stated that the probe was aimed at ensuring accountability.

The statement said, “It is believed that the programme will boost the financial viability of schools across the state.”

It said the state government would not allow any contractor to defraud the state.

The council also approved an initiative, School Farm Scheme, in order to boost food production and encourage pupils and students to like farming.

According to the statement, the council also made a decision to harmonise taxes, levies, rates, fees and charges collectable by ministries, departments and agencies in order to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

The governor said his government would be decisive in tackling corruption and waste.
